FLY ME TO THE MOON - JESSICA CAUCHARD
As machines become ever more autonomous, diverging visions emerge, from realms of science and science fiction alike. Some imagine a glamorous future with virtual and physical agents devoted to humans, supporting our well-being and handling our every chore, as we luxuriate; while others ponder whether humans will, instead, support robots and AI in daily tasks.
To nurture optimistic visions of the future, we must facilitate seamless human-machine communication, as to enable the symbiotic integration of machines into human environments. This challenge can be addressed from a dual perspective, one of understanding and one of interaction. Indeed, successful integration demands that intelligent systems grasp the intricacies and subtleties of human contexts, just as humans must interpret the actions and behaviors of machines. Furthermore, it hinges on the ability of humans and machines to engage with one another, both implicitly and explicitly, as they navigate the world together.
In this keynote, I will showcase how human-centered approaches foster the development of natural communication between humans and machines, and how design methods can be harnessed to leverage the understanding of complex systems. This ensemble will unveil how we can enable coexistence between autonomous systems and us, humans.

Prof. Jessica Cauchard is a Full Professor for Embodied Intelligent Interaction at TU Wien, Austria. Her research is rooted in the fields of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), and Ubiquitous Computing, focusing on designing and developing interaction techniques that enable humans and machines to co-exist. In particular, Prof. Cauchard investigates communication strategies between humans and autonomous systems and is a pioneer in the field of human-drone interaction. She is passionate about how technology reshapes interactions with the world and between people. |

Dr. Luc JULIA est Directeur Scientifique de Renault. Il a été Directeur Technique et Vice-Président pour l'innovation chez Samsung Electronics, a dirigé Siri chez Apple, été Directeur Technique chez Hewlett-Packard et a cofondé plusieurs start-ups dans la Silicon Valley. Lorsqu’il poursuivait ses recherches à SRI International, il a participé à la création de Nuance Communications, aujourd'hui leader mondial dans le domaine de la reconnaissance vocale. Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, Officier de l’ordre national du Mérite et membre de l'Académie des technologies, il est diplômé en mathématiques et en informatique de l’Université Pierre et Marie Curie à Paris et a obtenu un doctorat en informatique à l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris. Il est l'auteur du best-seller « L'intelligence artificielle n'existe pas », détient des dizaines de brevets et est reconnu comme l'un des 100 développeurs français les plus influents dans le monde numérique. |
